The Green Ray of the Sun
Ghosts. Ghosts? Ahem. GHOSTS.
All Ryland wanted was the free trip to Italy, courtesy of her dangerously impractical botany professor, Herr Cutter. But when their research on a Tuscan farm finds an inexplicable disease killing off the crops, Ryland gets something she absolutely didn't want: nightly dreams starring the ghost of the 19th century bandit-king, Domenico Tiburzi, pleading with her to save the land.
"You must follow the green ray," he implores.
When Ryland is given an 1883 edition of Jules Verne's The Green Ray, accompanied by the photo of a mysterious, unnamed woman, Ryland takes up Tiburzi's challenge. She embarks on a cross-continental odyssey through Italy, Germany, France, and the British Isles to uncover a tragic love story buried since the waning days of World War II. In the process, she will also find out how the farm's destiny is tied up with her own.
